“While we are living, our lives are like that of an open book, still being written. Eventually, our book closes for us, and to others, it will be as if we never existed at all. Those of us who write down our life story, will leave a little piece of us behind when we're gone.”
Unfortunately I don’t know the author of this quote, it was the daily quote in my Day One journal, but I think is a conundrum of modern life.
I have often wondered what future historians will make of our time on earth. What will they uncover? Undoubtably plastic will endure in the same way as bronze age coins and daggers, but what will they make of those items? If we have effectively destroyed the planet will future generations view these items with anger rather than the interest that we have in historical finds?
Our world is now so digital, will there be books, diaries and documents for them to trace our history and their ancestry? I have my life on my phone - my journal, my notebook, my diary, my music, the book I am reading, my important documents … For safety we encrypt these documents so assuming the technology to even open these documents survives how will they be opened and be read?
When my life ends will my story survive or will it die with me?
